It seems suffering has no end in the lives of people in coastal areas of Kerala. Nowadays they are facing problems in an unprecedented way. Continuing rain, floods, pandemic and lockdowns hit the lives and livelihood of people in the coastal areas harder than any other society. In past, monsoon season was only a challenging period for them, but now misery is a part of their daily life. Addition to that their problems are not getting enough attention in the media or in public when compared with problems in other parts of the State. Sometimes we are forced to believe that there exists a social stigma that they are doomed to face these challenges in life.
But we can not forget the contribution of this society for saving the lives of people in flooded areas when Kerala was hit by the flood so badly. They had risked their life and livelihood boats for this life saving mission. Now it is high time to think about what we have given them back.
Here I share some of the tragic pictures of these coastal people who make the most of politics and religion. In the hope that the coastal misery will come to an end.
